The Rhineland in post-war Germany

Hardly any German city had as much rubble and débris per inhabitant to cope with as Cologne, Essen and Aachen. Cologne and Duisburg were also two of the three cities which suffered the most damage to buildings: Cologne up to 70% and Duisburg with 64.8%. Smaller towns, such as Düren, Emmerich, Jülich, Moers and Wesel were also destroyed to a large extent.
